It is our pleasure to send you the Call for Book Submissions for “Books at Berlinale”, a joint initiative of the Berlin International Film Festival and Frankfurter Buchmesse.
The 18th edition of “Books at Berlinale” is taking place during the Berlinale as an in-person event. It aims at fostering better cooperation between the film and the book industries and is part of the Berlinale Co-Production Market from 18-22 February 2023. The planned date for the “Books at Berlinale” is 20 February 2023.
What is happening during the event?
Each year around 10 books are presented to a high-profile audience of around 150 internationally established producers. The books are presented in a printed catalogue and “live on stage” in a moderated pitching event where the respective rights holders (publishers or literary agents) introduce their book to the audience. The presentation is followed by a networking get-together during which contacts to interested producers can be established.
There will also be an exclusive Matchmaking Session organised by the Co-Production Market and the Netherlands Film Fund where publishers and agencies (including those selected for "Books at Berlinale") can meet producers in one-on-one meetings.

Please note the following:
You have to be the film rights holder of the novel. Your book proposal must be either a best-selling, especially awarded, new or yet to be published book with great potential for screen adaptation.
A longer synopsis, and a sample translation of the novel should exist – not only for selection purposes, but more so in order to be given to interested producers upon request.
For submission and our selection, a more detailed synopsis is mandatory.
|
|
The sample is great to have, but not a requirement.
The selection for “Books at Berlinale” will be made just before Christmas. If your book is selected, you are very welcome to participate in the entire Berlinale Co-Production Market programme, including panel discussions, networking receptions, etc. The Berlin International Film Festival will provide you with the necessary badge and a general festival accreditation.
